This is a brilliant Brunello, opening with intoxicating aromas of blackberry, blueberry, bay leaf, crushed blue Mediterranean flowers, and hot leather. It was made from 100% Sangiovese, but Il Marroneto winery has managed to incorporate a truly unique elegant character in this staunchly traditional Montalcino. It is a long burn, ideal for relaxing evenings and wholesome meals with friends.
Il Marroneto began in 1975, when Alessandro Mori and his brother planted the first vineyards in the soils of Montalcino Hill, overlooking the ancient city of Siena. The Mori brothers still work at the winery, overlooking every step of Il Marroneto’s minimal-intervention approach to winemaking. In classic Tuscan fashion, the health of the land is of the utmost importance, allowing the sun, the soil, and the grape to shine in every bottle.
This Brunello di Montalcino is full-bodied yet incredibly lean. It combines a bold, tannic texture with a fabulous acidic tension, due to the vineyard’s location 400 metres above sea level. You can discover notes of balsamic, rosemary, blood orange, and a medley of black fruits on the palate, with hints of minerality. It was aged for 39 months in oak barrels, before spending 10 more months in the bottle before release. It will be wonderful with mature cheese, wild game, or roasted red meats.
Pas de problème particulier.
