Located in the northern part of Montalcino, in southern Tuscany, the historic San Filippo winery, owned by Roberto Giannelli, covers 22 hectares of land and produces limited quantities of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, from the estate's 4 vineyards, near Cerbaiona. Here, the microclimate characterized by excellent temperature variations between day and night are ideal for the perfect maturation of Sangiovese.
The Sangiovese Grosso grapes are selected and harvested from vineyards located at an altitude between 240 and 300 meters, with north and north-east exposure and soils of Eocene origin with clay and limestone. Fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature and the finished wine rests first in barrique for 24-28 months and then in the bottle for another 10 months.
The wine reveals a brilliant and intense ruby color. Its aromatic profile is broad with notes of violets and red fruits, herbs and spices, tobacco, and balsamic hints. On the palate, it is concentrated and full, rich and soft with ripe tannins and a well-balanced acid vein. The finish is long and warm and recalls spicy hints. It is the ideal wine with game, in particular with wild boar stew, but it also goes well with mature cheeses.

overall i had a positive experience, they have a wide range of wines, some which are hard to find anywhere else - the main reason i still buy from them, plus the discounts are fair and often, but... their codes for the first offer only works at the first offer, which if fine, but then why would you send me the voucher in each package i order, why spam me on the email and every time i log in on the website? this is really bothering me... then their rewards points system is useless, first of all because you only get peanuts even after spending €250 on an order, but even those peanuts will expire if you won't order again soon, which is unfair, to say the least... and lastly, if you get a corked wine, a wine with any deffect or a wine that leaked (my last order contained a bottle of $100 Caymus Cabernet with a leaking cork, which made the wine tasted cooked and flat), they have no procedure put in place for you to replace or return the wine or to get a refund or replacement - none, which is a big no no no for any wine collector... so all in all i give it 3 stars for now
