The Auvigue winery has been situated among the limestone hills of southern Burgundy for almost a century. Francis Auvigue began bottling wines under the family name early in the 20th century, before founding the current cellar in a converted mill, in the heart of Pouilly-Fuissé.

From the winery, you can get a fantastic view of the “Roche de Solutré”, a jutting piece of limestone that reaches 1,600 feet above sea level. It evokes not just the picturesque landscape of the Mâconnais region, but also the wine that comes from this special terroir- elegantly structured, with an impressive vein of minerality.

The fruits for “Les Chenes” were sourced from Davayé, where vines grow on calcareous, clayish soils. It shows a generous nose, replete with scents of lemon zest, apple flesh, white flowers and butter. It has a sapid, soft feel in the mouth, with a steely undertone of minerality. Look for further flavours of brioche, hazelnut and honeysuckle on the palate, which mingle beautifully with notes of ripe fruit. There is also a well-defined oaky structure, and a long, mineral-driven finish. Consider pairing this elegant Chardonnay with soft cheeses, such as Comté, or any seafood that takes your fancy.
