Auvigue is a family-run winery, with roots in the southern regions of Burgundy that go all the way back to the 17th century. In 1946, Francis Auvigue founded the “Moulin du Pont”, a mill-turned-winery, that still serves as the headquarters for the family today.
The incumbent members of the Auvigue family are Michel and Jean-Pierre, two brothers who take a minimal intervention approach and dutifully express the terroir by using grapes that teeter on the edge of ripeness. Their wines are typically delicate, full of floral aromas, and bursting with the undeniable mineral seam that defines the appellation of Pouilly-Fuissé.
Harvested from vines within the Pouilly-Fuissé AOC with an average age of 80 years, this Vieilles Vignes has a mature, well-rounded style. It exhibits an aromatic nose, with strong notes of white flowers, citrus fruit, nectarine and minerality. Its pale yellow colour reflects the flavours you will find in each mouthful- crisp Meyer lemon, acacia flower, honeysuckle and an oak-imparted buttery texture. Think about pairing it with any kind of creamy seafood dish, poultry, game birds, or a charcuterie board. Auvigue’s Vieilles Vignes is perfectly enjoyable now but has plenty of potential to develop further, with a few years in the cellar.
