Jean Bouchard was founded in 1850 in the village of Meursault, and quickly developed strong ties with the Bichot family, before being acquired by Albert Bichot winery in 1955. Today, the winery is still owned and operated by the Bichot family, and remains one of the most venerated wineries in the region.
The winery harvests its grapes from plots in many of Burgundy’s greatest regions, including Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Chablis - the origin of this golden Chardonnay. “Les Vaucopins” refers to a Premier Cru vineyard, located on the precipitous slopes of the Serein’s right bank. Southern exposure grants the grapes slightly warmer conditions than neighbouring vineyards, granting “Les Vaucopins” wines a special character that simply must be tasted.
This wine opens with a subtle nose of citrus, minerality and fresh flowers, such as rose and peony. It is a stunning yellow gold in the glass. On the palate, look for notes of rhubarb, green apple skin, and a medley of citrus fruits - lemon, lime and grapefruit are all present. This is underpinned by a distinct minerality, typical of Chablis, and hints of freshly cut grass. It has a smooth mouthfeel, with a long tail of minerality. It is a perfect companion for seafood, such as cod or monkfish, or light vegetable dishes with a creamy sauce.
