What distinguishes Old World and New World Pinot Noir wines?

OLD WORLD and NEW WORLD Pinot Noir wines can be distinguished from each other by their winemaking traditions, terroir influences, and stylistic preferences. In the Old World regions such as Burgundy located in France, the expression of terroir is vital and therefore wines produced are more reflective of their individual vineyard sites with subtle flavors and elegant structures. With regard to that, the new world regions such as Oregon and California they tend to focus on fruit expression hence the wines they produce are characterized by the riper fruit flavors, fuller bodies and more pronounced oak influence.
