Is rosé just red wine?

Rose wine differs from red wine though it is made from red wine grapes. Although both types are fermented with grape skins, the resultant maceration period for rosé is much shorter, usually only a few hours, while that for red wine can go on for weeks. The shorter contact time is responsible for a lighter color and flavor profile of rosé, which ranges from pale pink to deeper hues. Consequently, rosé is made from the same grapes that are used in red wine, but the process of production and the traits of rosé wine turn it into another category.
