What are the sustainability challenges in growing Pinot Noir?

Pinot Noir growing keeps many challenges especially in water management, taking into account that the grape is sensitive to both drought and excessive moisture. Sustainable pest management is also important in order to save the fragile Pinot Noir vines from diseases and without using toxic substances. Moreover, climate change adaptation is rather problematic, since the changing weather patterns and higher temperatures can require revision of viticultural practices, selection of siting, and even clone choice of Pinot Noir to ensure quality and minimize environmental impact. In dealing with these challenges, winemakers are more and more adopting organic, biodynamic, and sustainable practices in their attempt of making high-quality Pinot Noir with a reduced environmental footprint.
