What are the differences between Malbec and Merlot?

First, Malbec and Merlot are both red wine varietals but differ in several major ways. Malbec is more robust and fuller bodied, it offers strong flavors of dark fruits and earthy notes. On the other hand, Merlot is much softer and friendlier, it has smoother tannins and there are red fruit, herbs and chocolate notes.
