How do Australian wine regions differ from those in Europe?

Instead of those that are centuries old, the wine industry of Australia is kind of new and the identity is rather progressive, exhibiting a more innovative character. On the top of that, Australia's continental size is ideal for the development of the different types of climate and as such wine-making has a broad angle because you can make cool-climate Rieslings and the warm-humid climate Shiraz. Whilst European country sides tend to concentrate on traditional grape varieties and the winemaking processes, Australian winemakers strive for uniqueness and innovation and therefore have a wide range of wines that have difference to different wines.
