Altair is one of the flagship wines of Vina San Pedro and is widely considered one of Chile’s finest reds. Named after the brightest star in the constellation of Aquila, the wine was conceived through a collaboration between Vina San Pablo and the Grand Cru estate of Chateau Dassault in Bordeaux.

Made as a Bordeaux-style blend, the grapes for this magnificent wine are sourced from Vina San Pedro’s vineyards in Cachapoal where the ancient volcanic soils provide ideal growing conditions. The blend is predominantly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon along with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc and Syrah.

The grapes are carefully picked by hand and undergo three quality selections before vinification begins. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks followed by maturation in new and used French oak barrels for 16 months. After the wine is bottled it spends another year maturing in the winery before it is finally released. The result is a serious red with firm tannins, a full body and rich dark fruit flavours which linger long on the palate. Altair makes a handsome addition to any collector’s cellar and will age beautifully over the next decade or so.
