Villa Giada Quercia Barbera D'Asti Superiore 2016

The 25 hectare Villa Giada estate is blessed with vineyard holdings in some of the Piedmont’s finest areas including 14 hectares in the village of Agliano Terme which has one of the finest terroirs for growing Barbera. This single vineyard Barbera is sourced from the estate’s Quercia plot which is planted on prime calcareous soils and is farmed sustainably. The grapes used for this wine are carefully selected from the oldest vines on the site which are harvested at the end of September.

The ripe grapes are then fermented in stainless steel tanks and transferred to small oak barrels for 14 months of maturation followed by bottling and a few additional months of ageing in the cellar. The result is a silky smooth Barbera with an elegant but firm structure, soft tannins, and intense red cherry, cigar box and forest floor notes.

The bold character of this delicious Barbera make it an excellent partner for red meats, game, Mediterranean vegetables, as well as all types of charcuterie and hard cheeses. It will also continue to develop and evolve if cellared over the next 6 to 8 years.
