Ventisquero is the name of a magnificent “hanging glacier” in Patagonia, the inspiration behind this up-and-coming young winery that’s making sensational wines from Chile’s finest wine regions. The winery was founded in 2000 and today has vineyards in Chile’s top terroirs including Colchagua, the Coastal Maipo valleys, Lolol and Leyda.
This delicious and approachable Pinot Noir begins life in a hillside vineyard in the Casablanca Valley which offers the perfect environment for the variety. In the summer months the heat is moderated by cooling breezes and fogs from the nearby Pacific Ocean, helping to preserve plenty of freshness and aromatics in the grapes. The fruit is harvested by hand and fermented at a low temperature followed by maturation in French oak barrels for 12 months before bottling.
This slow and careful winemaking philosophy crafts a beautiful cool climate Pinot Noir which is bursting with ripe red berries, vanilla, baking spice, and hints of dried herbs. On the palate there are soft, well-rounded tannins, a medium body and rich berry flavours which linger on the tongue. A great partner for charcuterie, tomato-based pastas or duck dishes thanks to the rich fruit character and refreshing streak of acidity on the finish.
