Montes Alpha is one of Montes Winery’s brands, offering a top-tier range of Chilean wine. It has been operating for over 30 years now, from the O’Higgins province in Central Chile, close to the famous wine-making region of Colchagua Valley.

This Special Cuvee is a French medley, composed of Cabernet Sauvignon with splashes of Syrah and Carménère. All were grown inside the Colchagua Valley region. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes (which make up the bulk of the blend) were sourced from the appellation of Marchigüe, a relatively cool terroir covered in lush greenery, that leads to intensely fruity wines.

The Special Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon shows a deep crimson colour in the glass, with a delicious bouquet of vibrant fruits - notes of plum, cherry and strawberry jam prime the palate for a rich tasting experience. The wine was aged for a year in French oak barrels of various ages, adding complex layers of baking spice and chocolate. The palate shows ripe notes of dried figs and red fruits. This is a serious wine, with a big body, spirited acidity and an excellent structure overall. It is worthy of some ageing in the bottle - but is perfectly enjoyable without extended cellaring. Consider pairing it with bold red meats, tomato sauce, or stir-fried beef with subtle spice flavourings.
