This is a deep purple Pinot Noir, packed with scents of dried rose petals, liquorice, cherry liqueur, and ripe red fruits. The grapes were harvested from the Nuits Saint Georges appellation, which is home to a variety of soils, but is famed for the sinewy, full-bodied character of its reds.
The first vintages with the Meo-Camuzet name were released in 1983 – but both of these closely related families have rich winemaking and grape-growing histories, dating back centuries. Currently, it is owned and operated by Jean-Nicolas and Nathalie Meo, a husband and wife duo with three children, poised to take on the next generation of Meo-Camuzet wines.
In the mouth, the Nuits Saint Georges is round and generous. Energetic acidity meets a finely grained tannic quality on the tongue. It is a négoce wine, assembled from vineyards in Premaux and Vosne Romanée. You can discover red hedgerow berries, cocoa, toasted wood, and baking spice, alongside the classic Pinot Noir hints of soil and mushroom. It will benefit from some ageing in the bottle, and would make an excellent partner for roast chicken, mushroom risotto, or a charcuterie board.
