Founded in 2002 by David Clarke and his wife Cheryl (nee Thorn), the Thorn Clarke winery represents the union of two historic Barossa Valley families. In fact, both David's and Cheryl's families were pioneers in this region of South Australia. The couple bought their first vineyards in 1987 and for about 15 years they had produced grapes for other wineries. Given the success they achieved, they then decided to buy more land in the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley and to open their own winery.
The wine is named after William Randell, one of the family's ancestors, who emigrated to Australia in 1837. The 100% Shiraz grapes come exclusively from our own vineyards. The grapes from different plots are vinified and matured separately and are blended only before bottling. For the final blend, only the best barrels from the best plots are used. The wine is produced only in exceptional years.
The William Randell Shiraz has an intense red color with purple reflections. The wine is in classic Barossa style and shows a rich bouquet of red fruits, blackberry, licorice, spiced plum and smoky notes on the nose. On the palate, it is deep and dense with hints of ripe mulberry and berry compote. The tannins are savory and round with a very pleasant and refined spicy finish. Have it with lamb.

overall i had a positive experience, they have a wide range of wines, some which are hard to find anywhere else - the main reason i still buy from them, plus the discounts are fair and often, but... their codes for the first offer only works at the first offer, which if fine, but then why would you send me the voucher in each package i order, why spam me on the email and every time i log in on the website? this is really bothering me... then their rewards points system is useless, first of all because you only get peanuts even after spending €250 on an order, but even those peanuts will expire if you won't order again soon, which is unfair, to say the least... and lastly, if you get a corked wine, a wine with any deffect or a wine that leaked (my last order contained a bottle of $100 Caymus Cabernet with a leaking cork, which made the wine tasted cooked and flat), they have no procedure put in place for you to replace or return the wine or to get a refund or replacement - none, which is a big no no no for any wine collector... so all in all i give it 3 stars for now
