Founded in 2010, Thistledown is a South Australian winery that sources its grapes from selected winemakers in the area’s premier regions (Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, and Langhorne Creek). Founders and Masters of Wine Giles Cooke and Fergal Tynan, work with Peter Leske to produce exceptional, small-batch wines that are expressive of Australia’s great terroirs.
The Grenache grapes are hand-picked from a vineyard with vines planted in 1952 and trained in a bush style on sandy soils. The wine is fermented in cement and then aged in oak and cement for approximately 10 months before bottling. The result is an extremely expressive wine that reflects the characteristics of the site of origin.
Thistledown Sands of Time Grenache is a powerful and intense wine, but never opulent with delicious aromas of ripe red fruit and blood orange, floral notes of lilac, and hints of rose water and violets. On the palate, it is structured and consistent, juicy and lively. It has a well-integrated tannic backbone and a smooth texture. The finish is long, elegant, and tasty. It’s an absolute must-try with Asian duck and pork, or pork tacos.

overall i had a positive experience, they have a wide range of wines, some which are hard to find anywhere else - the main reason i still buy from them, plus the discounts are fair and often, but... their codes for the first offer only works at the first offer, which if fine, but then why would you send me the voucher in each package i order, why spam me on the email and every time i log in on the website? this is really bothering me... then their rewards points system is useless, first of all because you only get peanuts even after spending €250 on an order, but even those peanuts will expire if you won't order again soon, which is unfair, to say the least... and lastly, if you get a corked wine, a wine with any deffect or a wine that leaked (my last order contained a bottle of $100 Caymus Cabernet with a leaking cork, which made the wine tasted cooked and flat), they have no procedure put in place for you to replace or return the wine or to get a refund or replacement - none, which is a big no no no for any wine collector... so all in all i give it 3 stars for now
