Nestled in the hills of Irpinia, between the Sabato and Calore rivers is one of Southern Italy’s leading wineries, Terredora di Paolo. Terredora was established in 1978 and today sits on nearly 500 acres of vineyards. The Terredora Taurasi Pago dei Fusi is 100 percent Aglianico and captures the bold rusticity that this grape variety is famed for. Considered one of Italy’s star grapes, Aglianico produces wines that are favored by those seeking earth-driven still reds. The nose opens up to a bouquet of ripe red fruits like cherry and strawberry, with savory notes of cigar box, licorice, coffee and mint. The palate demonstrates terroir with deep minerality, earth and spices highlighted by structured tannins. This wine pairs well with mature cheeses, lamb and beef, and red sauce pasta dishes.
