Nestled in the hills of Irpinia, between the Sabato and Calore rivers is one of Southern Italy’s leading wineries, Terredora di Paolo. A major proponent of celebrating the culture and traditions of the Campania region, Terredora has put huge effort into revitalizing the area’s indigenous grape varieties including Aglianico, Fiano, Greco and Falanghina.
Terredora was established in 1978 and today sits on nearly 500 acres of vineyards. The wines of Terredora showcase explicit quality and terroir as the vineyards are treated to rich, volcanic soil, southern facing slopes, high altitude thermal fluctuations and a dry, continental climate. Putting the utmost care into the wines in both the vineyard and cellar, Terredora is one of Southern Italy’s most prestigious estates.
The Terredora Taurasi Pago dei Fusi is 100 percent Aglianico and captures the bold rusticity that this grape variety is famed for. Considered one of Italy’s star grapes, Aglianico produces wines that are favored by those seeking earth-driven still reds. The nose opens up to a bouquet of ripe red fruits like cherry and strawberry, with savory notes of cigar box, licorice, coffee and mint. The palate demonstrates terroir with deep minerality, earth and spices highlighted by structured tannins. This wine pairs well with mature cheeses, lamb and beef, and red sauce pasta dishes.
