Tenuta Ulisse Merlot Rose 2018

This deeply-hued rosé opens with enticing notes of tangy cherries, crushed strawberries, and aromatic rose hips while the first sip reveals a bright acidity carefully balanced by a medium body and creamy, smooth texture. The Tenuta Ulisse estate craft their rosé from 100% Merlot which gives it a bold flavour profile and excellent gastronomic potential to pair with everything from roasted chicken and grilled salmon to rich duck dishes.

To preserve the pure varietal character of the Merlot and produce the best wine possible the grapes are immediately chilled in Tenuta Ulisse’s state-of-the-art cooling tunnel. The grape must is then macerated on the skins for 12 hours in stainless steel tanks to give the wine its distinctive colour and flavour profile before being vinified and aged in the tanks for 3 months before bottling.

Tenuta Ulisse is based in the town of Crecchio in the Abruzzo wine region of central Italy and it is currently run by two brothers, Antonio and Luigi Ulisse, who founded the estate in 2006. Despite the relative youth of the winery, the first seeds of the project were sown back in the early 1900s when the brothers’ grandfather purchased the family’s first vineyard in Contrada San Polo just outside Crecchio.
