Schiopetto Collio Pinot Bianco 2017

Zingy lemon zest, ripe apricots, and almond blossom characterise the nose of this lively Pinot Bianco while on the palate there’s a vibrant, mouthwatering freshness, light body, and gentle hints of ripe peaches and apricots which linger on the tongue. The crisp personality of this wine makes it a superb partner for fish and roasted chicken, although it also has the vivacity to stand up to oysters, scallops, and lobster dishes.

Pinot Bianco is a classic Friuli varietal which is especially well suited to the region’s hilly vineyards which are blessed with cooling breezes and superb clay and limestone soils. To ensure they only work with the highest quality fruit, the Schiopetto estate harvest all of their grapes by hand and press them very gently to avoid over-extraction. The must is then fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged on the lees for 8 months before bottling.

Schiopetto is widely regarded as one Friuli’s original pioneers thanks to the hard work of Mario Schiopetto whose work on the region’s white varietals in the 1960s and 1970s played a part in ushering in a revival for Italian winemaking. Today this legacy is carried on by new owner, Emilio Rotolo, who has sought to honour Mario’s work while making his own mark on the region.
