The Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa has been making wine in the Monferrato hills since 1854 and has shot to international recognition over the past few decades thanks to the work of Mario Pesce who purchased the estate in the 1960s. Today Scarpa specialises in making masterful Piemontese wines using traditional winemaking techniques.

The Bric du Nota is an incredibly elegant Nebbiolo which showcases the grace and beauty of the grape rather than the raw power of other examples. The grapes for this single vineyard Nebbiolo d’Alba is sourced from a top 2.5 acre vineyard and are fermented in stainless steel tanks. The new wine is then transferred to 2000 to 10,000 litre casks for one year before bottling and is aged for a further couple of years in the bottle before release.

The result is a perfumed Nebbiolo which bursts with layers of dark fruit, sweet spices, earth, leather, and tobacco smoke. The first sip reveals a medium body, vibrant acidity, gentle tannins, and an abundance of crushed berry, dried herb, and dark chocolate flavours which linger long on the tongue. A superb wine to accompany charcuterie, aged cheeses, or a rich venison or beef stew.
