Mladen Rožanić is regarded as one of Croatia’s finest producers of natural wines thanks to his winemaking philosophy that puts Mother Earth at the heart of his approach. His success is built on years of travelling the world’s wine regions and learning from talented winemakers until he felt he had acquired enough experience and knowledge to start his very own winery in his native Istria.
Mladen has a special passion for crafting unique orange wines like this Antica Malvasia which is made by macerating the grape must with the skins for at least 60 days in large wooden casks. Following this prolonged maceration the wine then remains in the wooden vats for a total of six years before being aged in the bottle for another year prior to release.
This minimal intervention approach to winemaking produces a gorgeous amber hued wine which displays slight cloudiness since Mladen wines are typically unfiltered. The nose offers enchanting notes of bitter almonds, cinnamon and sweet apricots which are complemented by the ginger, clementine and dried fig flavours on the palate. Thanks to the extended ageing and maceration period this is an intense, full bodied dry white wine which is nicely balanced by fresh acidity.
