Protos is a historic winery founded in 1927 in Ribera del Duero, Spain, by 11 local winemakers. Awarded Winery of the Year in 2012 by Wine & Spirit magazine, the company owns approximately 100 hectares of vineyards spread across the wine-growing district, divided into numerous parcels and planted with native grape varieties, primarily Tempranillo and Verdejo.

The Protos 27 is a red wine made with 100% Tinta del País grapes, from a vineyard over fifty years old, with limited yields. The name 27 pays homage to the winery's first wine, released in 1927. After manual harvesting and temperature-controlled fermentation in large tanks, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and then ages in new French oak for 16 months before bottling and a further year in the bottle.

In the glass, this elegant Ribera del Duero wine reveals an intense and brilliant cherry-red color with violet highlights. Its aromatic profile is expressive and fragrant, with notes of blackberry, raspberry, plum, and small red berries, followed by balsamic notes and hints of oak. On the palate, it is juicy, concentrated, and fruity, with soft tannins and a lively, refreshing acidity. It is rounded and well-structured, with a long, flavorful finish. Try it with roast lamb.
