Poderi Luigi Einaudi is a family-run winery located in Dogliani, Piedmont, since the late 1800s. The company was founded by Luigi Einaudi, a famous economist who later became President of the Italian Republic, and is now managed by his great-grandson Matteo Sardagna. The estate's vineyards extend over approximately 60 hectares.
The Barbera grapes are sourced from vineyards located in the municipality of Dogliani at an altitude of approximately 350–380 meters above sea level, on marl-clay-limestone soils. The vines, planted between 1983 and 2004, enjoy a south/southwest exposure. After harvesting and fermenting in stainless steel and cement vats, the wine rests for approximately a year in wood before being briefly aged in bottle.
In the glass, Langhe Barbera displays a deep and brilliant ruby color with delicate garnet highlights. On the nose, it releases intense aromas of ripe red fruits, balsamic notes, and floral notes. On the palate, it is fruity, soft, and fresh, with round tannins and a pleasant concentration. The finish is long and lively. Try it with roasted Portobello mushrooms, semi-mature cheeses, and agnolotti with tomato sauce.
