Founded in 1897 by Luigi Einaudi, before he became the second president of the Italian Republic, Poderi Luigi Einaudi is a family-run Piedmontese winery based in Dogliani.
The Nebbiolo grapes are selected from the Vigna Costa Grimaldi, a plot of approximately 1.6 hectares located in Terlo, in the municipality of Barolo. This was the winery's first acquisition in Barolo, purchased in 1958 by founder Luigi Einaudi. Here, the vines, planted in 1977 on calcareous marl soil, are located at an altitude of 310 meters above sea level and enjoy a southeastern exposure, which favors slow ripening. After manual harvesting and vinification in stainless steel and cement vats, the finished wine ages for approximately 30 months in oak barrels and another 9 months in the bottle.
In the glass, the Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi reveals a bright ruby red color with light garnet highlights. Its aromatic profile is intense, with notes of wild berries and rose petals, violets, and spices. On the palate, it's warm and smooth, with a note of freshness that balances the taste, and smooth tannins. The finish is long and elegantly spicy, with savory touches. As with most of the winery's wines, production is limited to a few thousand bottles. Try it with filet mignon with mushrooms or mature cheeses.
