Poderi Luigi Einaudi is a Piedmontese winery with a long family tradition, founded in the late 19th century. Its founder was a historic political and economic figure in the country, later becoming President of the Italian Republic. The Einaudi family has always upheld its great love for their land and vineyards, and today the winery is led by Matteo Sardagna, great-grandson of Luigi Einaudi.
Produced for the first time in 2018, Barolo Monvigliero is made with Nebbiolo grapes from the municipality of Verduno, a lesser-known area capable of producing highly expressive wines. The vines, planted between 1969 and 1980 at an altitude of 220-310 meters above sea level, enjoy southeast/southwest exposure and soils rich in limestone and chalk. Fermentation takes place in cement at a controlled temperature, and the finished wine ages, according to tradition, first in large oak barrels for over 30 months and then in bottle.
In the glass, the wine reveals a luminous garnet red color with light orange highlights. Its aromatic profile is broad and elegant, with notes of red fruits such as raspberry and cherry, interspersed with hints of violet, Mediterranean herbs, spices, and tobacco. On the palate, it is full and complex, concentrated and fresh, with firm yet well-integrated tannins and a long, warm, layered finish. It is a well-structured wine that pairs perfectly with succulent dishes such as Piedmontese braised beef.
