Founded in 1897 in Dogliani, Piedmont, Poderi Luigi Einaudi is a historic winery founded by Luigi Einaudi, a politician and economist who became the second President of the Italian Republic, and today led by Matteo Sardagna, his great-grandson.
The Nebbiolo grapes come from vineyards located in the Cannubi cru, approximately 220 meters above sea level. Planted between 1962 and 2002, the vines enjoy south and southeast exposure and are rooted in sandy, grayish-white Sant’Agata marl. After harvest, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel and cement vats. The wine then ages for several months in oak before undergoing extensive bottle aging.
The result is a classy red that reflects all the elegance typical of the wines of this corner of Piedmont. In the glass, the wine reveals a brilliant garnet-red color. Its aromatic profile is broad and complex, with intertwined notes of ripe red fruits and spices on a tarry undertone. On the palate, it is elegant, structured, and powerful. It has a pleasant acidity and a well-defined tannic backbone that will accompany it throughout its aging. The finish is long, persistent, and layered. It's a wine with a distinctive character: enjoy it with a game stew.
