Founded in 1994 in Alba, in the province of Cuneo, Poderi Colla boasts a long family tradition that dates back to the early 18th century. Over the centuries, the Colla family has played a fundamental role in the region's winemaking history, and even today the company remains one of the most prestigious in the Langhe.
The Nebbiolo grapes are sourced from the hillside vineyards of Cascine Drago in San Rocco Seno d'Elvio di Alba, on the border of the Barbaresco region, planted between 1967 and 1999. After manual harvesting and vinification with maceration on the skins for approximately 10 days, the finished wine ages for 12 months in large oak barrels. The result is a wine with the intense and powerful character of Nebbiolo but more youthful and approachable than a Barolo or Barbaresco.
In the glass, it reveals an intense and brilliant garnet color. Its aromatic profile is broad and complex, with notes of red berries, cherry, and plum, followed by floral aromas of rose and violet, typical of this grape variety, and some spicy nuances. On the palate, it is lively, distinctive, and fresh. It has firm but well-integrated tannins, good fruit concentration and structure. The finish is medium-long and slightly spicy. Enjoy it with tagliatelle with ragù and mushrooms.
