In 1998 Swiss born, Fabio Chiarelotto, fell in love with a Tuscan wine. It was the red Nardo, from the Montepeloso estate, at the time managed by Willi and Doris Neukmon. He tasted the enormous potential of the wine and decided to buy the estate, 15 hectares of terraced vineyards located 50 to 200 meters above sea level, in the Tuscan Maremma.
Pursuing the goal of creating wines of international resonance but with a typically Mediterranean character, the wine-growing activities have, since 1999, made use of the advice of the oenologist and agronomist Fabrizio Moltard. In 2007, Silvio Denz, an important owner of French wineries, joined the company, bringing new synergies and impulses, and improving the infrastructures, effectively contributing to a significant expansion of the company.
The Montepeloso Toscana Rosso IGT Nardo, a blend of organically grown Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Marselan grapes, is a wine of great depth. It ages for 18 months in 40% of new 400-liter tonneaux and refines in bottle for 9 months. It has a bright ruby red color. On the nose, the bouquet is made of layers of fruit such as blackberries, currants, cherries, and strawberries, with some delicate floral notes, sweet spices, minerals, and mountain herbs. On the palate it is warm, round, and full-bodied. It has character and balance, but it needs some time in the cellar to be at its best. It works beautifully with any red meat, but its best companion is wild boar.
