Founded by Guillermo Hurtado de Amezaga in 1858, Marqués de Riscal is one of the oldest and most renowned wineries in Spain. The company began production in Rueda in 1972 and contributed to the creation of the Rueda D.O. in 1980.
Finca Montico is a white wine made with Verdejo grapes in the Rueda D.O. The grapes are sourced from low-yielding vineyards over 20 years old, located in the highest areas of the Douro River, on gravelly, poor, and stony soil. After manual harvesting and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine ages on the lees for four months before bottling.
The result is a wine with an aromatic and fresh character. In the glass, the wine reveals a crystalline pale straw color with light greenish reflections. On the nose, it shows its most expressive and exuberant side, with intense notes of white fruit, ripe citrus, and stone fruit interspersed with herbaceous and floral hints. On the palate, it is fresh, silky, and round, with a crisp acidity. It is lively and elegant, with a long, delicately citrusy and thirst-quenching finish. Try it with fried green tomatoes, shrimp in garlic sauce, seafood tapas, vegetable risottos, and white fish in lemon sauce.
