An incredible new release that exceeds all expectations for this long-awaited offering. Deep concentrated dark red in colour turning to crimson at the edges. Complex, predominant notes of black cherry and spiced plums underscored by eucalyptus and balsamic hints on the nose. Brilliant flavours with a full, fruity palate, this balanced, earthy blend is retaining the classic depth and darkness to be expected from any of the estate’s labels.

This cuvée is predominantly of the Tempranillo varietal with almost 15% of the critical Castillo de Ygay use of Mazuelo. Only the best vintages from “La Plana” -- a nearly 50 year old vineyard section that produces less than 2 tonnes an acre. 100% destemmed grapes with slow, temperature-controlled fermentation to allow time for its iconic expansive and intricate flavours. Aged for 30 months in American oak barriques, with 10 months in new barriques.

Another excellent value offering from Murrieta, which is still very young by relative standards, and younger than the general 10 year rule for opening a Castillo de Ygay. Drink now or enjoy even more tonality in the coming few years. Pairs well with wild mushrooms and rich pasta dishes. A collectible not to be missed!
