Located in Romanèche-Thorins in Beaujolais, Chateau des Jacques dates back to the 17th century and was purchased in 1924 by Amédée Rousseau, a French entrepreneur and wine enthusiast with a visionary plan to revitalize the estate. Today, the estate, which has been part of Maison Louis Jadot since 1996, owns approximately 70 hectares of vineyards.
Chateau des Jacques Moulin-a-Vent is produced with Gamay grapes from eight Moulin à Vent terroirs (Rochegrès, Carquelin, Champ de Cour, Thorins, Vérillats, La Roche, La Rochelle, and Les Caves), each with different characteristics of the pink granite soil and exposure. After manual harvesting, maceration, and fermentation, the finished wine ages for 10 months in concrete tanks and oak barrels from the Nivernais, Limousin, and Allier forests.
In the glass, the wine reveals a clear, ruby-red color and an elegant, broad aromatic profile with notes of red berries, floral hints of violet, and spicy nuances. On the palate, it is rounded and generous, with a pronounced minerality and a distinctive, refreshing acidity. The finish is long and fruity. It is an elegant wine, capable of developing beautifully over the coming years. Try it with rabbit fricassee, herbed guinea fowl, or deep-fried turkey.
