A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    This is a classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, taking its name from a site in Marlborough that was formerly used as an airbase in WW2. It is packed with vibrant citrus and tropical fruit aromas, such as grapefruit, passion fruit, orange peel and peach. You can also find green hints of asparagus and fresh herbs.

    Founded in 1996 in a small Auckland cottage, Kim Crawford has quickly grown to become one of the best-renowned wineries in New Zealand. Its cool climate wines are perfect representations of the New Zealand spirit - crisp, lively and packed with flavour. These days, the winery has moved into the famous region of Marlborough, where the founders purchased their first vineyards and a state-of-the-art winery.

    The Spitfire Sauvignon Blanc is fresh and generous on the palate. It is notable for its intense passion fruit profile, supplemented by notes of mango, gooseberry and citrus zest. On the finish, you can find hints of flint, honey and fennel. It’s a superb, lively rendition of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, perfect for those looking for a new perspective on the French grape. Pair this wine with asparagus, lobster, or white fish.
