Jean Bouchard has deep-rooted ties with Albert Bichot, one of Burgundy’s stalwart wineries, which led to Bouchard being acquired by the Bichot family in 1955. Although Jean Bouchard winery originates from the fertile banks of Bordeaux, it now offers a range of stunning Burgundy wines, from the region’s finest vineyards.
The Hautes Cotes De Beaune is made from 100% Pinot Noir and is a fantastic example of red Burgundy - perfect as an introduction for beginners, or a treat for connoisseurs. Its fruits are sourced from highlands above the Côte de Beaune, where they grow in calcareous clay soil and are tempered into something truly magnificent by the midday sun.
A red berry bouquet of strawberry, wild raspberry and redcurrant emerges on the nose. If you give the wine some time to breathe, you can also discover hints of baking spice. On the palate, this is a classically earthy Pinot Noir. Flavours of mushroom, wood chips, leather and forest floor mingle with cranberry and dark cherry. Overall, it is a focused, easy-drinking experience - a couple of years in the bottle will give it time to develop complexity, but it is perfectly enjoyable straight out of the box. Consider regional pairings, such as beef bourguignon, rustic cheeses, or a shepherd’s pie.
