Set in amongst enigmatic rolling hills in the western portion of the Chianti Classico region, the family-owned Isole e Olena winery has been run by the De Marchis since the 1950s. The family’s property is composed of two sister estates, Isole and Olena, with a combined 45 hectares of vines. Both estates have a long and noble heritage dating back hundreds of years.

Heading up the estate today is visionary fourth generation winemaker Paolo De Marchi who took over the running of Isole e Olena aged just 25. Paolo honed his skills in the vineyards of California and France before heading back to his family’s lands to lead the winery into the next chapter of its long history. Paolo soon made a name for himself and for Isole e Olena with his pioneering 100% Sangiovese Super Tuscan wines.

This magnificent Cabernet Sauvignon showcases yet another side of Isole e Olena, combining elegance and finesse with the raw power and energy of this legendary grape variety. The grapes for this wine are sourced from a handful of hectares planted with Cabernet which sit at 400 metres above sea level. Following vinification the young wine is matured in 80% French and 20% American oak barrels for 24 months. After bottling the wine is then aged for another 2 years to soften the punchy tannins and bring refinement and harmony to the finished cuvee. An excellent choice to lay down in the cellar for another decade or more, although it can also be enjoyed now with hearty red meat dishes.
