Glenelly’s modern history dates back to 2003 when the property was purchased by legendary French winemaker May de Lencquesaing who owned Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Bordeaux for over 30 years. Despite being 78 years old, May quickly set about turning this Stellenbosch farm into a world-class winery with a reputation for producing excellent value Bordeaux-style blends that punch high above their price tag.
The Lady May cuvee is named after May de Lencquesaing herself, and is an homage to her vision and inspirational leadership. The dominant component in the blend is Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch along with some Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot for extra complexity and style. Each variety is vinified separately and aged on the lees for a significant period before being transferred to new French oak barrels for 24 months of ageing.
Sure to please lovers of big, bold reds, this handsome bottling is bursting with ripe cassis, blackberry and dark cherry flavours which linger on the tongue long after the first sip. On the palate there’s a rich, brooding character with a generous full body, firm tannins, and layers and layers of luscious dark fruit, spice, and dried herbs. A great partner for game, hearty beef dishes, or charcuterie.
A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!
