The Dunham family founded their namesake boutique winery in Washington State in 1995 in an old World War II aircraft hangar. Since then the property has gone from strength to strength, specialising in producing top quality reds crafted from Bordeaux varietals which are well-suited to the local terroir.
This charming cuvee is named the Three Legged Red after a puppy that Eric Dunham found. The dog had been attacked by another dog, losing one of its legs in the process. Eric decided to adopt the pup as the winery dog and later created this wine as an hommage to his trusty companion. Just like the dog, this is an easy-going red that gets on with most people. It’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah that’s aged in the same barrels used for Dunham’s top wines.
Bright red cherry, cigar box spice and hints of tomato immediately burst out of the glass followed by deeper undertones of forest floor, graphite, and dark chocolate. The approachable nature of this wine with its medium body and smooth tannins makes it an ideal choice for casual family dinners or drinks with friends. It can also be cellared for a few more years if desired.
