Originally founded in 1934, the domaine’s modern history began in 1958 when it was purchased by the Establet family who can remarkably trace their roots in the region right back to the 14th century. Today the property belongs to another ancient local family, the Jeunes, thanks to intermarriage between the two families.
In total the domaine has 14.8 hectares of Chateauneuf du Pape vineyards which are mostly planted on prime clay, limestone and gravel soils. In keeping with local tradition, their classic wine is predominantly made from Grenache along with a smaller portion of Syrah and Cinsault from vines with an average age of 50 years.
The Grenache and Cinsault wines are aged in cement vats with the Syrah ageing in large foudres for 11 months. The winemaker then creates the final blend and the wine is bottled and released. The result is a luscious, fruit-forward style of Chateauneuf du Pape with plenty of ripe cherry and berry flavours balanced by a bright streak of acidity. A great wine to cellar for a few more years or enjoy now with game, roast beef or fresh pasta dishes served with a hearty ragu sauce.
