Dal Cero Montecchiesi Sangiovese 2016

The Montecchiesi estate in southern Tuscany has been in the hands of the Dal Cero family since 1980. Brothers Giuseppe and Dario who come from a long line of grape growers recognised the potential of the land around Cortona for making wine and started their own winery inspired by Tuscany’s great viticultural traditions. Here the warm climate and clay soils particularly suits the native Sangiovese grape as well as Syrah which the family uses for many of its red wines.

The Sangiovese grapes selected for this bottling grow at an elevation of 280 metres which ensures even during the summer the nights tend to be cool. This helps to preserve freshness in the wine and create well-balanced red wines. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel tanks to maintain the pure character of the Sangiovese variety.

The result is a refined red that exudes rich aromas of ripe cherries and raspberries along with hints of dried herbs and pencil lead. On the palate there is a smooth texture, medium body and bright acidity which balances the rich red fruit character. Try serving alongside charcuterie or roasted meats to really show off the fruit forward personality of this charming Sangiovese.
