Located in Languedoc, not far from Narbonne, Chateau La Negly was purchased by Jean Paux-Rosset in 1992, after having changed hands several times. After the acquisition, the Paux-Rosset family undertook a project to upgrade and replant the vines, with the help of oenologist Claude Gros, to direct the winery towards quality production.
The wine is a blend of mostly Syrah with additions of Grenache, coming from the Clos des Truffiers, a vineyard located on the heights of Saint-Pargoire in Hérault and overlooking the sea. The Syrah vine, planted here in 1961, is the oldest in the region. The name of the parcel comes from the presence of truffle oaks in the initial plantation.
Clos des Truffiers is a wine with an intense color with ruby red tones. On the nose it reveals a broad and powerful aromatic profile with notes of blackberry and raspberry, dark fruits and violets, coffee and mineral hints. On the palate it is full and velvety, rounded and juicy with soft and well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and slightly woody. It is excellent with red meat, and absolutely not to be missed with a bone-in rib eye with garlic and herbs.
