Sparkling wines have been made in the Limoux region of France since 1544, centuries before Dom Perignon supposedly discovered the traditional method used to make Champagne in the late 18th century. The Antech family have been making sparkling wines locally for over six generations, and today the estate is run by Francoise Antech who is recognised as one of France’s top female winemakers.
Recently Francoise has been exploring how to work with the indigenous Mauzac grape which is traditionally used to make Blanquette de Limoux and has fallen out of fashion over the years. This variety is very well adapted to the terroir here and is one of the most resistant local grapes to climate change. To celebrate the variety, Francoise has created the M Le Mauzac collection with four sparkling wines expressing different aspects of the variety.
This delicious Brut Nature evokes the elegance and purity of Mauzac with zero sugar added in the dosage. This cuvee is made using the traditional method, the same method used to make Champagnes, with grapes sourced from the finest plots. The result is a crisp, bone dry sparkling wine which is ideal served as a refreshing aperitif or alongside oysters, prawns, or other types of fresh seafood.
