The original Ruinart was a Benedictine monk, Dom Thierry Ruinart, who heard about bubbly wine whilst attending the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris. In the middle of the 18th century, his ancestors founded one of the very first Champagne houses in the country. Fast forward to today, and Champagne Ruinart is still setting the standard for Champagne, with its extraordinary range of sparkling wine.
The Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is crafted exclusively from Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards. 90% of the fruits are sourced from the Côte de Blancs, and such mythical appellations as Mesnil-sur-Oger and Avize, while the remaining 10% are grown on the Montagne de Reims.
Upon uncorking and pouring this Blanc de Blancs, you discover a stunning golden yellow colour, with fine perlage and greenish hues. The nose is airy and rich in minerals, with hints of lemon balm, coffee, and a selection of nuts – almond, hazelnut, and nutmeg. In the mouth, it is tastefully dry, with interesting notes of spice, lemon rind, fig, buttered toast, and orchard fruits. This is one for a special occasion and for pairings with seafood, pork, or poultry.
