Maison Krug, founded by Joseph Kug in 1843 and today directed by Olivier Krug with chef de cave Eric Lebel, is one of the legendary Champagne companies and has been part of the LVMH group since 1999.
The Krug Grande Cuvée Edition 173 is an extraordinary wine, made starting from the 2017 harvest, with a blend of 150 wines from 13 different years, including the oldest from 2001. The Chef de Cave wanted to highlight the diversity of the delicate aromatic expressions to create a wine of great elegance and complexity. 2017 was a vintage characterized by particular climatic conditions with continuous variations between cool and hot periods, drought, and intense storms. However, this contrasting climate had a positive effect on the grapes, preserving their freshness and ensuring an effect of great heterogeneity throughout the region. The wine rests for about 7 years before degorgement.
This Champagne with a unique character shows a complex and intense olfactory profile with aromas of ripe fruit and citrus, fresh flowers and sweet spices, honey, almonds, and dried fruit. On the palate, the bubbles are fine and persistent. The wine is fresh, citrus rich and elegant. It goes very well with crustaceans and seafood but it can also pair with light truffle dishes.
