Castello Romitorio is an impressive castle standing high on a hill to the northwest of the Tuscan town of Montalcino. The first castle on the site was built by the Romans, with the property later used as a monastery and a shepherds’ shelter. The estate was acquired by the artist Sandro Chia in the 1980s in exchange for some of his paintings. Sandro used the building to house his studio as well as joining the local movement to revitalise Montalcino’s winemaking industry.
Today winemaking at Castello Romitorio is overseen by famous winemaking consultant Carlo Ferrini who has worked with many of the region’s top names including San Leonardo. As well as their classic Brunello wines, the estate has also experimented with international grape varieties as in this bottling which combines Syrah and Petit Verdot. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand to ensure quality and the young wine ages in oak for 12 months before bottling.
The result is a lively, fruit-forward Super Tuscan blend that’s bursting with dark berries, plums and ripe cherries. On the palate there’s a generous medium body, firm tannins and a long finish seasoned with toasty oak, cedar and cigar box spice from the oak ageing.

overall i had a positive experience, they have a wide range of wines, some which are hard to find anywhere else - the main reason i still buy from them, plus the discounts are fair and often, but... their codes for the first offer only works at the first offer, which if fine, but then why would you send me the voucher in each package i order, why spam me on the email and every time i log in on the website? this is really bothering me... then their rewards points system is useless, first of all because you only get peanuts even after spending €250 on an order, but even those peanuts will expire if you won't order again soon, which is unfair, to say the least... and lastly, if you get a corked wine, a wine with any deffect or a wine that leaked (my last order contained a bottle of $100 Caymus Cabernet with a leaking cork, which made the wine tasted cooked and flat), they have no procedure put in place for you to replace or return the wine or to get a refund or replacement - none, which is a big no no no for any wine collector... so all in all i give it 3 stars for now
