The Franciacorta region of northern Italy has produced wine since the end of the 12th century, and sparkling wines first appeared in official documents in the 15th century. Castello Bonomi is a respected producer of the modern-style Franciacorta sparkling wines which are made using the traditional method, the same process used to make Champagne. The estate takes its name from the stunning late 19th century Art Nouveau chateau built on the property.

The estate’s vineyards are planted at around 275 metres of altitude on the slopes of Monte Orfano in the far south of the Franciacorta appellation. The terroir here helps to create elegant, balanced sparkling wines with plenty of natural freshness and ripe fruit flavours.

Their iconic Franciacorta Saten Millesimato is a delicate Blanc de Blanc style sparkling wine crafted from 100% Chardonnay. Once in the winery the grapes are gently pressed and fermented in a mixture of steel tanks and small oak barrels for 8 months. These two base wines are then combined and fermented again in the bottle. The bottles are then left in the cellar to mature on the lees for 50 months before disgorging and the addition of a touch of syrup. The result is a crisp and refreshing aperitif that’s ideal to serve with cheeses, seafood, sushi, or a variety of vegetable-based dishes, pastas and risottos.
