Cascina del Colle is a family winery which has steadily become an established part of the Abruzzo landscape over the last 25 years. It is owned and run by the D’Onofrio’s, who from a farmhouse on a hill, create a delicious range of native Italian wines and olive oils.
The winery is found in the Villamagna municipality, in the Apennine foothills, not far from Italy’s eastern coast. It boasts a magnificent environment for the cultivation of Montepulciano grapes. Vineyards sit at an average height of 250 metres above sea level, with sun exposure to the south/southeast. The combination of austere winters and blistering summers makes for wonderfully complex and flavourful grapes.
Negus is an outstanding example of Montepulciano D’Abruzzo, exploding with blackberry jam, ripe cherry, cocoa beans and black liquorice. It leans towards being full-bodied and exhibits a firm tannic structure and fresh acidity. The name refers to an African king, which perfectly reflects the personality of this wine. It is warm in the mouth, swaddling the tongue in forest berries with vanilla and cinnamon spice. Serve at room temperature in a large glass, and pair it with a meaty Italian dish.

overall i had a positive experience, they have a wide range of wines, some which are hard to find anywhere else - the main reason i still buy from them, plus the discounts are fair and often, but... their codes for the first offer only works at the first offer, which if fine, but then why would you send me the voucher in each package i order, why spam me on the email and every time i log in on the website? this is really bothering me... then their rewards points system is useless, first of all because you only get peanuts even after spending €250 on an order, but even those peanuts will expire if you won't order again soon, which is unfair, to say the least... and lastly, if you get a corked wine, a wine with any deffect or a wine that leaked (my last order contained a bottle of $100 Caymus Cabernet with a leaking cork, which made the wine tasted cooked and flat), they have no procedure put in place for you to replace or return the wine or to get a refund or replacement - none, which is a big no no no for any wine collector... so all in all i give it 3 stars for now
