Cape Point Vineyards is a family-owned winery, situated in one of the most southerly wine-growing regions in the world. The estate can be found in Noordhoek, on the Cape Peninsula, about a kilometre away from the Atlantic Ocean. The Chapman’s Peak mountain range provides some shelter, yet Cape Point’s crisp white wines are very much shaped by the furious ocean winds.

Incumbent head winemaker Riandri Visser has a knack for Sauvignon Blanc, crafting an incredible range of windswept whites from the Bordeaux varietal. The grape is also well-suited to the unfavourable soils at Cape Peninsula, which are composed of ancient decomposed granite.

Isleidh is made of 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon, the latter of which was aged in clay amphorae, adding significant body and layers of rich texture to this Bordeaux-style white blend. It opens on a harmonious, floral nose, with notes of peach, nectarine, sweet lemon and tart grapefruit. These flavours of stone fruit and citrus continue onto the palate, developing deeper notes of herbs and spices. There is an undeniable hint of salinity on the finish, evoking the dramatic landscape where the grape was grown. Pair it with fresh fish dishes, asparagus and rich, buttery sauces.
