Campo alla Sughera winery began life in 1998 when the entrepreneurial German Knauf family moved to Tuscany in pursuit of a hidden gem. They found the perfect terroir in Bolgheri, a small DOC village on the Tuscan Coast, and over the last 25 years, they have worked to elevate the standing of this humble hamlet.

The rolling Metallifere hills provide shelter from the maritime winds, making Bolgheri a fantastic location for growing Bordeaux grapes. This flagship wine is composed of Petit Verdot, which ripens beautifully under the Italian sun, and Cabernet Franc - which adds a certain peppery, spicy character.

Alive with scents of plum, blackberry and black pepper, the fruits for this wine were harvested from vineyards in Castagneto Carducci, an incredible red wine terroir in the heart of Bolgheri. Look for underlying whiffs of earthy barnyard and balsamic vinegar. As you begin to sip, you will discover rich black fruit flavours and fine, balanced tannins, which create a smooth and velvety drinking experience. This is a perfect way of introducing yourself to the wonders of Campo alla Sughera. Try to pair it with an equally hearty dish, such as grilled meat served with an umami sauce, or aged cheese.
