Bodegas Felix Callejo was founded in 1989, by Spanish trailblazers Felix and Pilar Callejo. It is a family winery, now under the leadership of the second generation of Callejo wine-makers. Their range of stunning wines is heavily influenced by their home, the village of Sotillo de la Ribera, found in the province of Burgos.

Sotillo de la Ribera is a high-altitude environment, reaching 930 metres above sea level. It features a range of soils, from low-lying clay loam to highland limestone. The Felix Callejo wine is a homage to the winery’s founder and his passion for this austere terroir. The Tempranillo grapes were grown in the most inhospitable part of Ribera, on windswept, rocky land.

Hardship whilst growing gives way to highly concentrated fruits, which explode from the nose of this cherry red wine. Ripe black fruits and spice mingle with notes of rosemary, cloves and creamy oak, obtained from 15 months of ageing in French barrels. On the palate, it is equal parts flavourful and robust, with hints of blueberry and chocolate. This is one of the best wines that Ribera del Duero has to offer, a classic expression of the Tempranillo grape. Pair it with traditional Spanish food, cured meats or tomato-based dishes.
